NFL TEASER

In this team project, I had the opportunity to work on an NFL teaser, incorporating elements of 2D, 3D, and some cel animation too! It was my first time working on sports graphics, really enjoyed the final result!

Version 1 - Includes Cel

Version 2 - No Cel

To create and exciting teaser for the upcoming match of two sport rivals, and a reminder to watch it on the sports network.

RESEARCH

The research was an essential part of this project. We examined and evaluated the themes, styles, and execution of previous animations produced for various platforms. Our investigation uncovered common patterns, like the usage of vibrant hues and strong patterns, which capture the exhilarating essence of the sport. We sought to innovate within this context, seeing that there was a continuum from intense action to nuanced, narrative-driven methods, so that our teaser would not only fit in but also stand out.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

C1: Impact Zone

A football breaks through a wall with "This Sunday" 2D type projected onto it. As it breaks through the wall it impacts with forceful blue and red lightning that starts to transform the debris into blue and red matchup the team's colors. The teams animate with 2D type projected on the color-changing debris. The debris impacts the floor bleeding colors filled with projected type growing towards the final logo lockup.

Created using C4D.

C2: The Groundshakers

SFX: We hear the crowd roar as a big play is completed and as the eruption of sound hits the patterned tiles react in a a rhythmic movement. The disruption elevates the tiles high and leads the camera to a 2D animation of both teams on the sides of this tile road. Tune in live shows up on the road followed by 12/1 c and the disruption of the ground shockwaves down the road/field to to the final logo lockup.

C3: Pulsing Pigskin

A pulse of energy comes from a football-like material is a close macro shot. We aren't sure what it is. We hear a huge catch and tackle is made and another pulsing happens. The texture starts to disrupt and pulse in abstract unfamiliar ways. 2D type animates on the surfaces of the material highlighting teams and times. The camera reacts to one last pulse as it snaps outside the football and we reveal that was inside the football the whole time during an intense game.

Selected Concept: The Groundshakers

Out of the three pitched concepts, "The Groundshakers" was identified as the most promising. Feedback underscored the significance of showcasing team logos rather than just their names in the text. Additionally, we were encouraged to diversify our visual palette beyond the initial honeycomb design proposed, exploring various shapes, and textures beyond just stone, and a broader color spectrum. Given that the chosen teams are from Florida, it was suggested that this could serve as a rich backdrop for refining the script and generating new ideas.

ANIMATION DEVELOPMENT

In the initial pass, we produced an animatic that incorporated integrated style frames. During this phase, we focused on synchronizing the pacing of each frame with the audio, determining the duration required for each respective frame.

First Pass

Following the feedback on the initial pass, the team refined the 3D frames to focus more on the players, reducing their abstract nature. The 2D frames were enhanced with motion, and the player footage was updated to feature more athletes.
